Grupo Roble – owner of Plaza Roble, Multiplaza Escazú and the Real Intercontinental and Real Quality hotels – will invest in the expansion of these enterprises and build a 250-room hotel.
In addition, it is considering going ahead with real estate projects.
The new hotel, to be built this year, is to be called the JW Marriott and will be located at Hacienda Pinilla, in Guanacaste province.
This will be a million-dollar investment, but the conglomerate’s board of directors prefers not to talk to the press about the amount, according to the group’s director and manager, Salvador Bolaños.
First stage. The first step in the new investment project has already been taken – remodeling of the entire Real Intercontinental Hotel and its rooms.
In May construction will begin on a heated swimming pool.
Some of the changes in the hotel include renovation of the food and drink section. In November, at the latest, four new spaces will go into operation: a sushi bar, an Italian restaurant, a steak and lobster house and a lobby bar. There will also be a new Internet cafe area.
The Quality Hotel across from Forum in Santa Ana, San Jose, is also undergoing a similar renovation.
In the second phase at the Real Intercontinental Hotel a tower housing 98 rooms and a spa will be built. The target public for the Real Intercontinental in Guachipelín, Escazú, is Costa Rican and foreign business men and women. |
Medium term. Another of the conglomerate’s projects is the expansion of Multiplaza to include the fifth and sixth stages. At present work is being done on the preliminary designs.
The group will also remodel Plaza Roble, with the erection of two inter-connected buildings on the current parking lot site.
In addition to these plans, the company will be developing a real estate project.
According to Salvador Bolaños, up until recently the company was thinking of developing a project in San Antonio de Belén, Heredia, but in the end the project did not come through.
The manager stated that the company is investing heavily in Costa Rica.
"We are very happy to be here, and more than anything we believe in the country and its people," he said.
Grupo Roble is a project developer with a home office in El Salvador.
It has had a presence in Costa Rica for 14 years.
